Coney Island’s Luna Park officially reopened today after being closed for the last year.

Mayor Bill de Blasio cut the ribbon around 11 a.m. marking the reopening Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel. The festivities kicked off with the traditional blessing of the rides and an egg cream christening of the Cyclone.

Sanitizing stations and social distancing markers are set up around the park. People ages 2 and up is required to wear a mask.

The park is operating at 33% capacity, and people will be spaced out both on the rides and in eating areas.

As a thank you for their hard work over the past year, 100 health care workers were welcomed into the park. Many of them enjoyed a free ride on the Wonder Wheel.

The Wonder Wheel turned 100 years old last week, but the park couldn’t have a proper celebration because of the pandemic.

Everyone who enters Luna Park is required to purchase an admissions wristband for one of the two parks. It gives visitors two hours of access and allows the park to track how many people are there so the capacity doesn't go past 33%.

Visitors can reserve what time they will be at the park to guarantee admission.

Luna Park will only be open on weekends at first. It will transition to seven days a week starting Memorial Day weekend.  

A new roller coaster called the Phoenix is scheduled to open in the park later this summer.
