Community members celebrated Haitian Independence Day on Sunday.
Congregants were able to dance and celebrate at Saint Jerome Catholic Church in East Flatbush.
The event included a procession to a classic hymn with the altar servers, deacons, a priest and bishop.
After Mass, congregants enjoyed the traditional soup zhumoo, a squash that prior to their independence, Haitians were not allowed to eat.
