Congressman Ritchie Torres is calling on the federal government to partner with New York to transform the Cross Bronx Expressway.
In a letter penned to the officials, Congressman Torres asks the agency to team up with the city in backing a multiyear federally funded project to reimagine the Cross Bronx Expressway.
It's a partnership that he hopes will be similar to the U.S. Department of Transportation Emerging Projects framework partnership between U.S. DOT and the city of Austin. In that reveal, they committed to helping the city manage $22 billion worth of transportation projects that will allegedly improve infrastructure in the city and reconnecting communities.
In his letter to the department, the congressman says in part, "Any national effort to reconnect communities impacted by highway construction must incorporate transformation of the Cross Bronx Expressway."
News 12 reached out to the U.S. DOT regarding Torres' request, and we are still waiting to hear back.
