New York City Councilmember Jennifer Gutierrez’s office has created a new guide that can help residents navigate the traumatic process of losing their home to fire.
“Often times, that information is not easy to access,” said Gutierrez. “Sometimes it’s not something that we think about.”
The councilwoman’s office compiled a report in response to roughly 1,100 destructive fires last year. The report – called the New York City Residential Fire Emergency Response Guide - aims to put all the information for those who are victims to fire in one place.
The guide will be handed out by the Flatbush Tenant Coalition and even the Red Cross to ensure that New Yorkers stay safe and follow the proper steps in the event of a fire.
