Residents in one Country Club neighborhood are upset after being ticketed for parking in a way that they claim they've been doing for decades without a problem.
People who live on one side of Layton Avenue say they've been parking at an angle to create more spaces for their neighbors for years.
However, when they woke up early Saturday morning they found roughly 40 vehicles were ticketed for violating traffic rules by not parallel parking.
The New York City's Department of Transportation says "no person shall place a vehicle at an angle to the curb, except when such angle placement is authorized by these rules or by signs or markings."
Residents of a co-op apartment building on the dead end say there is a designated lot for apartment owners to use at a price. But residents claim there's not nearly enough spaces to accommodate all them.
“I’m here 25 years, never got a ticket, none of us have gotten a ticket. Half of us are senior citizens, and we’re living on fixed incomes, and we need the parking,” said Bob Maietta. “If it changes, if it goes to parallel, we’re going to lose half our spots.”
“I don’t understand why all of the sudden now they’re giving tickets here,” said Samantha Derian.
Now the residents are strongly considering taking this fight to traffic court.
News 12 The Bronx reached out to the NYPD for a response and is waiting to hear back.
