Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed the legalization of marijuana. If approved, what would this mean for New Yorkers?

Medical marijuana has been legal in New York since 2014, but now Gov. Cuomo is looking to legalize it for recreational use.

The governor's proposal calls for the creation of a new Office of Cannabis Management which would oversee adult use as well as the state's existing medical program. The office would also be responsible for regulation.

The legalization is expected to generate more than $300 million in tax revenue.

Adam Goers is with Columbia Care, one of the largest multi-state operators in the medical cannabis industry with a location in Brooklyn. He says the proposed legalization could be beneficial for many New Yorkers.

"It's also going to create a lot of new jobs, just like Columbia Care that operates in Brooklyn, with high paying jobs and good benefits, we are going to see that throughout the industry," Goers says.

Goers also says he believes the legislation would loosen up restrictions on the medical industry to be able to provide more products for patients.
