Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday a new plan to fund a host of local organizations to help prevent gang recruitment.
The multimillion-dollar initiative will provide up to $1 million for the Police Athletic League and the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club. Funds will also be allocated to Roberto Clemente State Park.
Tim McChristian, of the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club, says the center is currently open until 8:30 p.m. He hopes with additional funding the hours can be expanded for the teens in the community.
The announcement comes in the wake of the brutal murder of 15-year-old  Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz, who was stabbed and slashed multiple times, including once in the neck at 183rd Street and Bathgate Avenue.
Officials say the money will go directly to the community to help prevent gang recruitment in the Bronx.
