The Day of the Dead is not a day to mourn but a day when people celebrate life and welcome their deceased loved ones.
"My parents used to tell me it's when our family members that are no longer with us come to visit us spiritually. They used to say we need to put their favorite food, and Pan de Muerto," says Yariel Lucero, manager of Tulcingo Resturant and Bakery.
With offerings and love notes, people in Mexico traditionally gather at cemeteries on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 in the hope that their deceased loved one would visit.
"We spend the whole day at the cemetery...we clean up their tombstones...we celebrate with food, drinks and any activities that they loved when they were here," says Lucero.
