An apparent sinkhole on West 168th Street between Ogden and University avenues is causing concern for drivers - but thankfully, the Department of Enivronmental Protection is working to fix the problem.
The busy side street is a two-lane road and a bus stop for the Bx18. People in the neighborhood say on July 30, an MTA bus got stuck in the hole and had to be removed by a lift.
"This hole has expanded, we have our 18 bus that comes right here, it goes up and down in both directions, one time it got stuck there and they had to call a lift to remove it," said Rahkeiah Brooks.
Brooks says she first noticed a small hole form about a month ago after roadwork was completed on West 168th Street. She says over the course of a few weeks, it grew to become an inconvenience and hazard for drivers.
Department of Environmental Protection crews were out at the sight on Tuesday afternoon assessing and fixing the situation.
It has not yet been determined what caused the hole to form, but the Department of Transportation says it usually involves an underlying condition in the roadbeds.
