A deteriorating ceiling collapsed in a woman's NYCHA apartment, and she says the incident could have been avoided if the city's Housing Authority had been more responsive to her concerns.

It happened at the Sack Wern Houses in Soundview. Robin Rogers says she knew the day would come when her bathroom ceiling collapsed -- and when it did, it nearly hit her as she stepped out of the shower.

Rogers says she has been dealing with leaks for a while. Back in April, a fifth floor pipe burst and caused leaks in both her bathroom and bedroom ceilings that would leave her apartment flooded. The ordeal forced her to cover her bedroom in plastic and she says she couldn't sleep in it for almost six months.

Rogers, who has been a Sack Wern Houses tenant for nearly 30 years, says that she filled out tickets all along to notify NYCHA of the problem. But she says the Housing Authority dropped the ball, and workers would either not show up or would arrive at different times than she had scheduled.

"We love where we live, we're trying to work in our communities and also live in our communities, but not under these conditions," Rogers says.

News 12 reached out to NYCHA about the situation and a spokesperson said, "It is completely unacceptable for our residents to wait so long for repairs. We strive to provide safe, clean and connected homes for everyone who lives at NYCHA, and we absolutely fell short here. We can and will do better."

NYCHA workers told Rogers Saturday that they would repair her bathroom as soon as possible and repair the remaining ceiling issue in her bedroom by Monday.
