A person in custody at the Anna M. Kross Center passed away Friday, according to the Department of Corrections.

The person was pronounced dead at 10:13 a.m. DOC officials say the cause of death is under investigation with confirmation pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

"We are extremely saddened by yet another death in custody," DOC Commissioner Louis A. Molina says. "No one should have to experience the loss of a loved one while incarcerated and we are doing everything in our power to keep people safe and prevent further losses."

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of their designated contact.

According to officials, this is the 10th death in DOC custody this year.
