Nanook arrived at
AMA two weeks ago in very poor condition.
"She was so bad, she couldn't get up, she couldn't move. Only her head," said AMA president and co-founder Mariya Vlasova.
Police officers said they found Nanook inside a garbage bag discarded between two cars on Church Avenue. She was severely malnourished and dehydrated.
"Her legs, the saddest part... especially her back legs, there was no muscles at all. It was just bone and skin because of the pressure sores all over her legs. She was kept in a tight crate for an extended period of time," Vlasova explained.
Angels For Mistreated Animals, a rescue and rehabilitation organization that works with abused and neglected animals, made it their mission to help Nanook get back on her feet.
"We didn't know what to expect, what recently. Just a few days ago, she has shown so much progress and we are so excited. We do think she's going to make a very good comeback," said AMA president and co-founder Anna Khazanova.
Nanook is now in a foster home, receiving daily physical therapy and medication to help her walk again.
"A miracle just seeing her life brought back, because when we first got her, she looked disabled. And seeing her come to life, it's really something amazing to see," said foster parent Tim Casseus.
Doctors said it will take a couple more months for Nanook to fully recover. The animal shelter said there are already people interested in adopting Nanook and giving her a fur-ever home.
Besides Nanook, Angels For Mistreated Animals has plenty of other furry companions that are looking for their fur-ever homes.
