A Bronx woman who is a survivor of domestic violence is sharing her story in hopes of helping others.
Mechell Medina recently wrote a book about the years she spent in an abusive marriage.
Medina says her husband would do things like shove her if his food was cold, and push her down the stairs if he felt she was ignoring his texts.
She says she didn’t leave for years because she was scared.
Medina says she finally called the police, pressed charges, moved out and joined a support group at a local church in Melrose.
Her message to others going through similar situations is that there is always a way out.
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence says there are more than 20,000 calls each day to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.
If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
