The Department of Transportation is considering putting up deer crossing signs after an increase in deer-involved accidents over the last few years.

Some of the proposed locations for the signs in Pelham Bay include City Island Road, Middletown Road and Park Drive.

Councilman Jimmy Vacca says he wrote to the department after learning that it agreed to place the signs in Staten Island, but has not yet officially decided to install signs in the Bronx. He and other advocacy groups say there have been too many accidents in the area, especially at night.

In December 2014, the Parks Department conducted a survey of the area and found that the white-tailed deer population has increased.

The DOT released a statement saying it is in the process in evaluating and researching the options.
