A driver was killed and a passenger was hospitalized after an accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. on the westbound side of the expressway when a sedan crashed into the back of a flatbed truck.

The driver, a 45-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he suffered trauma to the head and body.

A female passenger was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for medical attention.

The accident caused the closing of the westbound Cross Bronx Expressway from the time of the accident until 6:30 a.m.
