Passaic plans to use $830,000 to redevelop Dundee Island Park.
Mayor Hector Lora says the aim is to replace the area's crime-ridden legacy and make it an open space for residents and their families to enjoy.
"There's going to be the park for kids to learn how to ride a bike. There's going to be benches and bleachers to watch the games. There's going to be a gazebo. There's going to be brand new trees planted. It's really to highlight nature and make sure our families have the opportunity to go out and really enjoy,” Lora says.
Passaic is also partnering with Garfield to build a bridge that connects both towns' riverfronts.
