Neighbors in East New York said Saturday they hope the show goes on at their local movie theater after word got around that it may be the final curtain call for the Multiplex Cinemas on Linden Boulevard.
A post from the theater's Facebook has been shared more than a thousand times. It says the theater will close on Jan. 2 because of "a business decision," but it did not specify what exactly that meant.
The post has gained a lot of reaction from people, including Edwin Aguila, who said this is one finale he doesn't want to watch.
"I remember when ['Avengers:] Infinity War' came out. That was a big Marvel film, so the theater was packed with a lot of people," Aguila recalled.
And it appears the theater gets crowded often.
"Tuesdays, they have a special, half-price. It's packed in here," said Dafina Richards, who was hoping to see a movie on Saturday. Now she hopes to see as many movies before it closes.
"Seniors come in here all the time. It's going to be sad, real sad. Where are we going to go now?" she asked.
Reports found online say a supermarket may take over the spot.
As for the next closest movie theater, moviegoers who News 12 spoke with said it's Downtown Brooklyn.
The theater's owner, Showcase Cinemas, says moviegoers can go to its Jamaica and College Point locations.
