Riverdale Restaurant Week kicked off Saturday with more than 30 eateries.
Hand crafted cocktails and New York strip are just a few items on the Restaurant Week menu at the Home BX Steakhouse.
"We are a steakhouse, but I don't want people to think we are a typical steakhouse," says Home BX Steakhouse general manager Norman Martinez.
The restaurant is a new edition to West 238th Street as it just opened in 2022. Working to become a household name, Home BX Steakhouse is participating in the second Riverdale Restaurant Week.
"It brings more people to the area, there are a lot of amazing restaurants around here that people don't know about," Martinez says.
Riverdale Restaurant Week is the brainchild of two community organizers. They say it is a tasty way to help local restaurant owners fill their dining rooms.
"Last year and this year, with restaurants hurting as they are, we wanted to give them a vehicle in order to promote their business as well as the different flavors in our neighborhood," says co-founder Mike Gabert, of Dine Out Riverdale.
As part of the event, each business is offering pre-fix menus, specialty cocktails and discounts.
After two long time staples to the Riverdale restaurant scene closed down last year, the co-founders say this week has an even bigger purpose.
"It's not easy, it's a very tough business. We want to do our part to make sure there are no more empty store fronts in our community," says co-founder Laura Levine-Pinedo, also of Dine Out Riverdale.
Aside from boosting business, money raised this week will also pay for meals for those who may not be able to afford them.
"We're stocking up the Riverdale Friendly Fridge on West 242nd Street," Gabert says.
The co-founders say no matter the cuisine, it is sure to be a tasty week in Riverdale.
"We just want to showcase it. We just want to highlight it. We do this for our community. We are proud to say we are from here. This is for Riverdale, this is for Kingsbridge," Levine-Pinedo says.
Customers will also have the chance to cast their vote for their favorite restaurant as each restaurant has their own QR code outside. Customers who scan the QR code will be taken to a website where they can cast their votes. The winner will win a free membership for a year to the Bronx Chamber of Commerce.
Restaurant Week runs through April 22.
