Elected officials and youth leaders
gathered in Hunts Point today to rally for climate justice and the passage of
the Climate and Community Investment Act.
The event was only one of a series
of 12 rallies that took place this week across New York state.
The act would raise $10 to $15
billion per year from corporate polluters and use it to create green jobs. The
plan is to build a renewable economy for New York state.
Bronx community leaders said that
legislation like this is needed for the Bronx.
Assembly member
Amanda Septino said, "As a Hunts Point resident, all of this legislation,
especially legislation like the CCI, feels deeply personal to me because I have
friends and family, who literally struggle to breathe."
