Surveillance video caught a woman abandoning a 7-month-old girl at a Brooklyn store Friday night.
A woman believed to be in her 20s walked into the store around 8 p.m., police say, wheeling the child in a stroller and then walked out without her.
Police say she asked a store employee if she could use the bathroom inside the Gates Mini Mart on Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick.
After 20 minutes went by, Nabil Aslaidi, who owns the store, said he sensed something was up and knocked on the door to check on her. The knocks went unanswered.
The woman finally left the store without her child.
Aslaidi heard crying, which is when he found a baby in the stroller. That's when he called police.
The infant was unharmed and was taken to Wychoff Hospital. She is now in the custody of the Administration for Children’s Services.
Every state has a Safe Haven Law, which allows for a newborn to be dropped off anonymously at a church, hospital, fire or police station where they can be cared for.
The investigation into the case in ongoing.
