Dozens of Bronx residents took part in an event Saturday in Mullaly Park to mark World Tai Chi and Qigong Day.
Organizers tell News 12 that attendees practiced the Chinese tradition, which is now used as exercise. It involves a series of slow movements accompanied by deep, focused breathing.
They joined Tai Chi enthusiasts from 80 countries that participated in the global event.
Master Kenya Dudley says that Tai Chi has helped her become balanced and patience.
"For me, I was that ADD, hyper type, adrenaline junkie," she said.
Her father also turned to the martial art after a serious car accident. She says that a year ago he wasn't able to move. After practicing Qigong, he is now able to walk again.
This year's theme focused on how Tai Chi could help people with arthritis and diabetes.
Representatives say that the exercises are a gentle way to fight stress and anxiety, and also to improve flexibility and balance.
