A 13-year court battle has led to what some are calling the largest lead paint verdict in state history.
The Bronx Supreme Court awarded Elsa Gutierrez and Magnolia Reyes $21 million. The women's daughters, now teenagers, suffered brain damage due to high levels of lead paint in their apartments at 824 Southern Blvd.
Jahira Gutierrez, 15, says she is unable to read due to her limited brain function. She feels the lead paint may have robbed her of potential.
"I would have been somebody in life," she says. "I can't believe he did this."
News 12 The Bronx tried to contact the landlord and are awaiting his response.
