Family and friends gathered for a vigil in Melrose on Thursday to remember a Bronx man who was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn.
Michael Hernandez would have turned 28 years old on Thursday, but his life was cut short on March 14.
Police said Hernandez was stabbed several times in the abdomen near Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn.
Investigators told News 12 that a large group gathered outside the Atlantic Terminal Mall before the stabbing, and multiple people ran from the scene.
Police arrested and charged 18-year-old Noah Rentas. They are still searching for about a half dozen other people.
Hernandez’s mother, Marisol Miranda, said that while she celebrates her son’s birthday, she wants more answers.
“I’m going to get justice for my son,” Miranda said. “We have one [arrest]. We still have a few more to get. But I won't stop, and the case is not resolved, until we get everyone. So, even if it takes 20 years, we’re going to get it.”
The family created an online petition calling for stronger laws and sentences.
