A Bronx family is celebrating the life of a woman nearly one year after she was killed and dismembered.
Lisa Marie Velasquez would have turned 26 on June 5.
Family and friends headed out to Velasquez's old home to honor her with music, candles and food. They say Velasquez was always filled with happiness and want to take her happiness with them in their lives.
Her loved ones say she should be remembered by the way she lived, not the inhumane way she was killed.
Velasquez was killed in August when relatives say she tried to help a friend involved in a domestic dispute.
A city Parks Department worker found a bag with her remains in Crotona Park. Police say tourists found another bag of her remains in Barretto Point Park.
Velasquez's friend Ciara Martinez and Martinez's boyfriend Daquan Wheeler were both indicted on a number of charges connected to Velasquez's death.
