A four-alarm fire in a Staten Island residential neighborhood has injured 22 firefighters, according to the FDNY.

FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said in a press conference at Staten Island University Hospital North that the three firefighters who were originally in serious condition are expected to be OK.

Eleven minutes into fighting the fire, first responders received a report of a firefighter down. Seven minutes later, a signal was transmitted for a trapped member. 

Three firefighters were pulled out of the building in serious condition, while 19 other firefighters suffered minor injuries. 

Fire officials say that the fire started in between the two buildings in the back area of a duplex home located at 88 Shotwell Ave. The heavy winds at the fire caused the windows to fail as fire blew into the buildings while firefighters were searching for occupants. 

Firefighters from both Brooklyn and Staten Island responded to the scene. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
