10h agoIt’s been one year since Brooklyn probational firefighter Vincent Malveux died during training at the FDNY fire academy.
Friends, loved ones and members of the FDNY gathered Friday to honor him on Randall’s Island, as FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh revealed a plaque dedicated to Malveux’s life, legacy and dedication to the fire department.
Malveux, whose friends called him Pablo, died Dec. 3, 2021 after collapsing during a training exercise at the academy, during the sixth week of his 18-week firefighter training. He was 31.
His former EMS partner, Christian Marte, spoke about Malveux’s dedication.
”I've never felt such a loss until we lost Vincent. Today marks the 364th day without Vincent,” said Marte. “But we are a family now… we are solidifying and abetting this promise to remain a family forever by dedicating this plaque for eternity.”
