The FDNY says a fire broke out at an apartment building in Belmont overnight Sunday, sending multiple people to the hospital.
The fire broke out on the 14th floor at Twin Parks complex at 725 Garden St. around 1 a.m. Officials say they believe the fire started in the apartment building's trash compactor.
Firefighters managed to put out the fire by 3:30 a.m.
Officials say 13 people were injured in the fire, with two in critical condition.
They say one of the critically injured is a 3-year-old toddler. The toddler reportedly is suffering from second- and third-degree burns on 80% of her body.
A 19-year-old male is also in critical condition. Authorities say the teen and child were exiting apartment when they were burned.
The other occupants were hospitalized to be treated for smoke inhalation and their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The Red Cross is helping those affected and tells News 12 that it's providing emergency housing for families.
