The FDNY honored one of their beloved chaplains who recently lost his life after working with the FDNY for nearly 30 years.
FDNY chaplain John E. Delendick passed away on Thanksgiving after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer at 74 years old.
“In his absence, I feel sorrow and at a loss of words,” said FDNY commissioner Laura Kavanaugh. “I also feel gratitude and comfort in knowing he is finally at peace.”
Delendick gave his blessings at FDNY graduations, promotions, and funerals since 1996, and will be remembered for his dedicated to supporting his fellow FDNY members and their loved ones following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
