Firefighters responded to a massive two-alarm fire in Kingsbridge Wednesday morning.
The FDNY says the fire started on the fourth floor at 2718 Morris Ave. Black smoke stretched and almost covered the fifth and sixth floors.
Multiple families were displaced from their homes as a result of the fire, with one resident saying they were forced to use the fire escape because they could not get through the front door.
A minor was rolled out of the building as well as four other injured people, including two firefighters. All five injured people are expected to be OK.
Residents who live in the building blamed a neighbor's recklessness for the cause of the fire, but the FDNY says it cannot confirm this.
"The guy from this apartment, he literally came outside and told my mom that he dropped something under the bed, and he used a lighter to look for it and that's what caused the fire," said one distraught neighbor.
The flames were put out. Firefighters are investigating the cause.
