The FDNY is giving New Yorkers a glimpse of the life-saving work it does on a daily basis as part of an initiative to connect New York's bravest with the communities they serve.
FDNY members from more than 200 firehouses and EMS stations across the city kicked off Fire Prevention Week with the department's fifth annual Open House.
They gave out smoke alarms and safety tips to members of the community. They're also looking to inspire the next generation of brave firefighters.
At Engine 52, a call came in moments before residents began showing up for the open house. Crews jumped into action.
Engine 52 is also celebrating 135 years of service to the community.
