Flames heavily damaged a home near Port Jervis and killed two family pets on Tuesday.
Fire officials say the flames broke out around 11:30 a.m. in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, just over the river from Port Jervis. On arrival, crews were informed that there may have been a person trapped inside the burning house.
Firefighters entered the burning building, and say heavy fire was located in the kitchen area of the home, extending to the second floor.
Crews quickly knocked down the bulk of fire and conducted searches of the home. While no people were found, two family pets were discovered dead.
Firefighters were able to limit the heavy damage to the kitchen and second floor bedroom. The remainder of the home suffered heat, smoke and water damage.
