A first generation Dominican-American artist from the Bronx published her first comic book.

Stephanie Rodriguez’s new comic “Doodles from the Boogie Down” is based on parts of her childhood in the Bronx.

"I didn’t see any Latina stories out there, so I wanted to share my own story,” she said. "This book is 50/50 my life and a made-up story. Little Steph goes through the Bronx living her tween years as a normal 12-year-old girl.”

The book transports the reader to well-known sights in the Bronx.

"You’re going to see bodegas, you’re going to see the Kingsbridge Armory, the famous Cuchifritos spot on Fordham. You'll see a lot of little gems,” said Rodriguez.

The author says she is currently working on other projects and there may be a sequel to the comic coming soon.
