A group of tenants in Flatbush met with city officials on Friday in an effort to get critical repairs to their building.

Tenants at 1111 Ocean Ave. say they have been demanding repairs for decades. After going on rent strikes and suing their landlord earlier this year, they have turned to politicians for help.

Council Member Farah Lewis, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the Department of Buildings did a walkthrough of the building on Friday.

They began on the roof, which residents say is the cause of some major leaks that made multiple apartment ceilings collapse.

They then worked their way down the floors to listen to tenant complaints.

The building has hundreds of open violations from the Department of Buildings and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Since January, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development started making some emergency repairs to the building. The owner owes them over $100,000 for those repairs.
