A Fordham man says he and a family member were forced to go to the emergency room on two separate occasions for injuries sustained from falling bathroom tile inside their Webster Avenue apartment.
“The thing shattered, I’m standing on it and it’s kind of hurting a little, I rushed to get out and I slipped and I hit my head and I got a little dizzy and I landed on my back," said Alphonso Newsuan.
For the last month, Newsuan says he has been forced to use a cane to get around.
Two weeks later, he says his 16-year-old daughter was hurt when tile fell and hit her in the eye.
Documents shared with News 12 show a 311 complaint filed in September 2024 asking for repairs to be done to the "broken or defective plastered surfaces in the bathroom."
News 12 reached out to the management company of the building, JSAF Management.
The head of the company, Arim, said over the phone that this is not a case of management neglect, but rather a case of miscommunication.
Arim says the company has its own portal for tenants to file their complaints. If tenants are unable to use the portal, they are advised to call the office.
He says neither of those methods were used in this case.
