A Fordham University student from Houston is playing her part in helping spread the word of aiding her fellow Texans in the wake of Harvey.
Sophomore neuroscience major Madison Shyer was moving into her Fordham dorm as Harvey hit her hometown, leaving her feeling helpless.
"I was the only one in my family that evacuated, I was able to get out in time … but I'm not there to help them! I can't help them!" says Shyer. "I can't be with my family as the waters rise and as anything happens."
Luckily for her and her family, their home stayed intact, but that didn't ease much of the impact of seeing how others from nearby fared.
But Shyer's hope hasn't dulled, after receiving an outpouring of love and support from her fellow Fordham classmates.
Shyer says for anyone who wants to help, she has seen that there is no donation too big or too small.
"I have seen a lot of help in the area which is really reassuring, because we need it.  Houstonians are a proud bunch and we don't like to ask for help, but I think in this instance we really need it," says Shyer.
