Former special education teacher makes documentary about ‘preschool to prison pipeline’

A former special education teacher and Bronx resident is looking to educate the community about the "preschool to prison pipeline" within the educational system.
"Preschool to Prison" had its opening screening Thursday at Lehman College, and the theater was packed. The documentary tackles policies and practices that Dr. Karen Baptiste says pushes students out of the classroom and toward crime.
"No parent can ever fathom that when they send their child to school that they would be called to say pick your child up at the police station,” says Baptiste. “I've seen it play out as a teacher. This has happened to a family member of mine. I've seen this all over the nation - not even just in this nation, but also across the world."

Baptiste says she hopes that this documentary does important work in creating a more fruitful future for future generations.
