Hundreds of backpacks were handed out to kids in Brooklyn Tuesday in honor of a fallen police NYPD detective.
The event at P.S. 59 was held through a foundation set up in Detective Rafael Ramos' honor by his widow, Maritza Ramos.
It's been nearly three years since Ramos and his partner Wenjian Liu were shot and killed as they sat in their cruiser in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Officers from across north Brooklyn were on hand, along with some of the kids' favorite superheroes.
Maritza Ramos attended the event, as did Lisa Tuozzolo. Tuozzolo is the widow of Detective Paul Tuozzolo, an NYPD officer killed in the Bronx.
