The food organization Full Hearts and Full Bellies teamed up with the Bronx Boys and Girls Club on Friday to feed the residents of Norwood.
The event took place on DeKalb Avenue.
The two groups distributed 40,000 pounds of pantry items including rice, pasta and fruit cups for the community with the help of donations from corporate sponsors Target and Tyson Foods.
"Juneteenth is a celebratory day,” said Millie Peartree, founder of full hearts and full bellies. “So, often people don't have the money to participate in celebrations. So, this is a way that people can celebrate, and we can give them the things that they need in order to celebrate."
This is the second year that the Juneteenth food drive has taken place.
