Friends,
family, and teammates packed the pews Monday to say goodbye to
Darius Lee, a 21-year-old basketball star and fatal victim of a
shooting in Harlem earlier this month that injured eight others.
The
viewing, held at First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem, was an
open casket, and Darius Lee was wearing his basketball jersey.
Flowers were arranged in the shape of basketballs, T-shirts were worn that
said, “ball in peace”, and heavy hearts filled the church for a young man
with such promise.
Teammates
from near and far came to pay their respects.
The
viewing was followed by a service at the church, where Rev. Al Sharpton and the
National Action Network spoke.
