A beloved New Canaan restaurant is back open just 10 days after a fire destroyed its kitchen.

South End Uncorked opened its doors to the community with free food Tuesday night to offer thanks.

"All of our staff could've walked out," chef-owner Nick Martschenko says, "instead they put gloves on and helped get this place back together."

No one was hurt in the fire, but the restaurant did have to close so they could get new equipment.

It also came at a time when Martschenko was in the process of opening another location in Stamford.

South End Uncorked New Canaan was able to rebuild, renovate and refresh the space.

Dozens came out to celebrate their reopening.

"It's a place every town needs," Will Blair says. "Glad to have it back."

"I feel like Uncorked is a bit of a fabric of this community," Martschenko says. "Hopefully what we did will last another 10 years, and we can keep on going."

Uncorked's new Stamford location is located on Bedford Street.
