In anticipation of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that New York will invest $35 million into providing access to abortion.
The governor said $25 million will go to a new abortion provider support fund and the remaining $10 million will go toward keeping reproductive health care centers safe.
This all comes as a newly proposed bill unveiled Monday would provide financial support to abortion providers in New York. It would also support access to abortion for low-income New Yorkers as well as those living in states where abortion could soon be outlawed.
Senate Democrats are also pushing to protect abortion rights with a vote on a bill expected as soon as Wednesday.
