Many residents gathered at Red Hook Atlantic Terminal this weekend to enjoy a new ferry service to Governors Island.
The ride is only 4 minutes long and tickets are free on weekends before noon. After that they are $3.
Tickets are free to NYCHA residents along with certain community groups.
Sarah Krautheim, vice president of Public Affairs for Governors Island, says she wanted Red Hook residents to have a space to enjoy amid the limitations of the pandemic.
"This year with our limited capacity, we chose to move the ferry to Red Hook mostly to expand our reach to Red Hook residents who might not have as much access to open space as say, Carroll Gardens and Brooklyn Heights," she says.

Masks are required and specific seating spaces have been closed off to enforce social distancing. More information can be found on their website.
