Goya is donating 100,000 pounds of food to the community as part of the fifth annual “Goya Gives Day.”
Organizers say that “Goya Gives Day” was “born from a need that we saw due to rising grocery prices across the country.”
“We saw that the money’s just not stretching, and our communities are in need, so it was really born from a desire to support the communities,” a member of the group told News 12.
About 200 volunteers came to Goya’s headquarters in Jersey City to help with the effort.
“Knowing that people are receiving this food, it’s such a blessing. A blessing from God and I’m glad to be a part of it,” said one volunteer.
The volunteers consisted of members of 20 different organizations in the New York and New Jersey area.
They packed over 10,000 bags of food to give out.
