NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi held a grand opening Friday for its new pirate ship playground at its pediatric clinic.
The 7,000-square-foot area was an empty outdoor space before undergoing a two-year transformation.
The playground features rockers, areas for children to tumble and jump and an interactive pirate ship.
It was funded through a grant by the Taft Foundation, a nonprofit that helps improves the lives of children and adults with serious health conditions and disabilities.
Community leaders say the hospital playground will also help some children overcome their fears of visiting the doctor.
