Subway crime is an issue at the heart of this year's midterm election, especially after two stabbings on Bronx trains in less than 24 hours.

Although police have arrested suspects in both cases, riders News 12 spoke to say it's enough to make them want to stay off the train.

A 54-year-old man was stabbed Sunday while riding a downtown 4 train as it pulled into the 149th Street Grand Concourse station. Police say he was trying to help a woman who was being harassed by 42-year-old Brooklyn resident Lason Robinson. Robinson is accused of stabbing the victim in the elbow when he tried to intervene and has since been arrested and charged with assault.

At the Morrison Avenue-Soundview subway station, a man was stabbed in the neck while waiting for the train on the subway platform Sunday morning.

Police data shows transit crime is up 28%, but those crimes represent a small fraction of passengers on the subway.
