New York City has seen a hot and humid summer so far, and temperatures are expected to crank up even higher.
According to city data, the Bronx and Brooklyn are home to the most neighborhoods with the highest risk of injury or heat related deaths. Ahead of the potential heat wave, officials say to make sure to stay stocked up on water and hydrated when leaving the house.
Experts recommend limiting the time outside, especially at midday when the sun is the hottest. As temperatures rise quickly, so does the risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke in some cases.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heavy sweating, clammy skin, weakness, dizziness, and nausea are all symptoms of heat exhaustion.
Cooling centers will only open once it hits 95 degrees for two consecutive days. In the meantime, there are a lot of public pools, drinking fountains and spray showers across the city. Click here to learn more.
