A trailer parked while carrying a heavy load of produce at Lafayette Avenue and Drake Street fell through the pavement and tore a hole in the street.
Officials say a leg of the trailer was on a street gas cap, causing it to buckle and create a hole about 8 inches deep.
Crews with Con Edison and the Office of Emergency Management responded to the incident. Fire officials say there was no damage to the gas valve, and Con Edison confirms that there was no leak.
Officials brought in a large crane to lift the trailer out of the way so workers could begin repairs.
The trailer was apparently parked in a no-parking zone. Its owner declined to speak with News 12 on camera.
