High school Regents exams could be a thing of the past if the City Council's leading voice on education gets his way.
Councilman Mark Treyger is calling for the end of high school Regents exams. He is promoting project-based assessments.
So, instead of taking one exam at the end of the year, students could do several presentations throughout the year to show their knowledge of the material.
Treyger says the current model just isn't the student's best interest.
"We're actually limiting our students abilities. We're actually hurting some students, subjecting them to these hours worth of exams that actually do not do anything to lift them up," said Councilman Treyger.
The state Education Department stresses that no decisions have been made.
