News 12 headed to the New York Botanical Garden Monday to find out if the unseasonably warm weather affected the foliage.
Jessica Schuler, of the New York Botanical Garden, said that volunteers are looking at the change of fall colors, and that data does show that low temperatures in October do correlate with the date on which the fall colors arrive.
Schuler says that although it seems the leaves are changing later, it was a similar time last year. She says there are a few other factors that affect fall foliage.
"You're looking at temperature - not just dry periods. So, it was pretty dry in September and October, so that has resulted in a lot of fall color changing because of the fall conditions,” she says.
Schuler says that the temperature needs to change a bit to get the red and purple leaves. She says that’s a different chemical reaction when temperature get a bit lower, so there may not be much of those hues if the temperatures don’t get cooler soon.
