The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced that it is ramping up enforcement against 250 buildings across the city.
HPD says this is part of its annual Alternative Enforcement Program. The agency is also launching a new Certification Watchlist to hold accountable those who falsely certify a corrected violation.
The program focuses on buildings with serious and unresolved violations, such as mold, rodents, lead-based paint and inoperable self-closing doors. These violations indicate that the building’s landlord is failing to maintain basic living conditions for tenants.
A full list of the buildings selected for the Alternative Enforcement Program and the Certification Watchlist is posted on HPD’s website.
